Rambunctious Ratios
Rambunctious Ratios
We are learning to use multiplication and division to solve proportion and ratios problems.
Multiplication and Division Practice.
=Work these problems out in your mind and discuss your strategies with your group. Show a couple of strategies below, but the rest of the questions can just be answered
29 x 20 = 580 2. 33 x 15 = 495 3. 76 x 24 = 1824 4. 65 x 17 = 1105
5. 72 x 15 = 1080 6. 33 x 16 = 528 7. 34 x 31 = 1054 8. 42 x 26 = 1092
9. 90 ÷ 30 = 3 10. 280 ÷ 40 = 7 11. 300 ÷ 12 = 25 12. 625 ÷ 25 = 25
Word problem of the week:
For every 8 girls in a school, there are 12 boys. If there are 60 students in the school, how many girls and boys are there in the school? 8 x 3 = 24, 12 x 3 = 36, 24 + 36 = 60, 24 girls to 36 boys
Wicked word problems!
Solve these problems. Write down your strategies:
Jermaine has 120 lollies to share between some friends. How many lollies would each friend get if there were 8 altogether? 8 x 10 = 80, 8 x 5 = 40, for each kid there is 40 candies. 1:40
It takes 3 minutes to hang out 12 items of clothing. How long will it take to hang out 36 items? 12 + 24 = 36, 3 + 24 = 27, 27 minutes to hang out 36 items of clothing. 27 : 36
A pancake recipe calls for 3 cups of flour and 2 eggs. Marika is going to make several batches to bring to the garage sale. If she wants to use 9 eggs, how many cups of flour will she use? Half of 2 is 1, half of 3 is 1.5, 2 x 4 = 8, 3 x 4 = 12, + the half = 9 : 13.5.
At the pools, one lifeguard is required for every 25 people. If there are 150 people booked to swim, how many lifeguards need to be working? 25 x 6 = 150, there are 6 lifeguards needed for 150 people to swim
The pools also say that one adult can only look after two children under 5. If Pt England Kids are going swimming and they are taking 30 children, how many adults will they need? 2 x 15 = 30, 15 parents are needed for 30 kids to swim safely.
If the ratio is 2:8 then it is also ?:56, 8 x 5 = 40, + 16 {2x}, 7 : 56

~Multiplication Magic 1~
Multiplication Magic
We are learning to use place value to solve multiplication problems using whole numbers.
A factor is…. Things that you can multiply to make that number.
Factors of 24: 6,1,24,3,12
Factors of 30: 5,1,10,30,15,
A Multiple is…. Times x
Multiples of 6: 12,18,24,30,36,42,48,54,60
42 = 4 x 4 = 16
√49 = 7 x 7 = 49, answer 7
25 x 8 = 200
20 x 8 = 160
5 x 8 = 40
25 x 15 = 385
20 x 15 = 300
5 x 15 = 85
Show your working under each problem:
1. Mrs Ilaoa orders 5 boxes of bats. If each box contains 7 bats, how many bats are there altogether? 5 x 7 = 35, answer there are 35 bats altogether.
2. She then orders 23 boxes of cones. If each box contains 8 cones, how many cones are there altogether? 8 x 20 = 160, 8 x 3 = 24, 184 is the amount of cones.
3.Mrs Tele’a orders pencils for team 5. She orders 25 boxes of 12 pencils. How many pencils are there altogether? 20 x 10 = 200, 10 x 5 = 50, 2 x 20 = 40, 2 x 5 = 10, altogether 300.
4. Chance has brought some lollies in to share with the class for her birthday. She has brought 14 packets which contain 12 lollies each. How many lollies are there altogether? 10 x 10 = 100, 10 x 4 = 40, 2 x 10 = 20, 2 x 4 = 8, altogether = 168
5. Team 5 are working out how much money they can make from their fundraising at the garage sale.
If they sell 27 plates of food for $12 each, how much money will they make? 10 x 20 = 200, 10 x 7 = 70, 2 x 20 = 40, 2 x 7 = 14, altogether 324
If they sell 45 cakes for $15 each, how much money will they make? 10 x 40 = 400, 10 x 5 = 50, 5 x 40 = 200, 5 x 5 = 25, altogether 675
6. Room 4 is 12m long and 11m wide. What is the area of the room? (Area: Length x Width) 10 x 10 = 100, 2 x 1 = 2, altogether 102m is the area of room 4

List the first 5 prime numbers:
List the multiples of 6:
List the factors of 24:
List the common factors of 24 and 48:
Show your working for the following problems, either on here or in your books
Mr Burt has $1000 in the maths budget at the start of the year.
He starts by purchasing 650 maths books, at $0.30 each. His total spend is: $195, 650 x 3 = 1950, 1950 / 10 = 195
How much does he have left? 1000 - 195 = $805
Next he spends $167.70 on rulers and protractors
How much is left now? 805 - 167.70 = 637.30,
Then he purchases 5 text books, which cost $26.50 each. The 5 textbooks cost: 5 x 26 = 130, 5 x 0.50 2.50, $132.50
How much does he have left? 637.30 - 132.50 = $504.80
Finally he spends $6.70 on stickers.
How much does he have left? $504.80 - 6.70 = 498.10

We are learning to solve subtraction problems using whole and decimal numbers.
Times Table Practice:
3 x 3 =9 5 x 5 =25 8 x 7 = 56 12 x 10 = 120 4 x 6 = 24 5 x 7 = 35 2 x 4 = 8 3 x 8 = 24 9 x 8 = 72 4 x 7 = 28 9 x 7 = 63
Show your working for the following problems, either on here or in your books
Your brother gives you $125 to spend on lollies. If you spend $65 how much money would you have left over? The strategy I used was add not subtract. 65 + 60 = 120, Answer = $60
Zaeeda has bought Tha Zin a new puppy. She has $500 in her bank account as she heads to the shops.
She first buys a dog bed for $60. How much money does she have left? 60 + 440 = 500, she has $440 left.
She then buys a bowl for $25. How much does she have left? 440 - 25 = 415, she now has $25
Then she buys 3 chew toys. Each toy costs $3.50. How much does she have left? $3.50 x 3 = $10.50, 10.50 - 415 = $404.50
Finally she buys a diamond collar for the dog which costs $154.50. How much is left in her account at the end of the day? 404.50 - 154.50 = $250
Kalani’s python has become ill and needs to go to the vets. He has $100 in his wallet.
The cost of the vet visit is $65.50. How much money is left in Kalani’s wallet? 65.50 + 4.50 = 70, 70 + 30 = 100, altogether 34.50 is what is left in Kalani’s wallet.
AJ is also at the vet with his rabbit. His rabbit has had expensive surgery. If AJ has $10.25 left in his bank account and he started with $525.80, how much did the surgery cost? 10.25 + 9.75 = 20, 20 + 505.80 = $525.80, meaning that the surgery costed $515.55
Zyla’s puppy is growing every month. He used to weigh 5.67 kg but he now weighs 6.34kg. How much weight has he put on? 5.67 + 0.33 = 6, 6 + 0.34 = 6.34, altogether 0.67 or also known as 670g
