2020/Term 4 Highlights!

This term was packed full of events and was overall a very exciting term! There were many highlights and memories made this year.

I had the opportunity to be a film festival presenter and present our classroom film all about how to deal with your worries. It was based on a book "Ruby finds a worry" by Tom Percival.

In term 3 the year 8s went off to Thames for the annual camp, year 8 camp was postponed due to Covid-19 and lockdowns so that was why we had it during term 3 instead of term 2. I made many memories there and had loads of fun with the rest of the year 8s. I'll definitely miss the camps that Pt England has for us.

Cross country was also one of my highlights! this years cross country the year 8s had to run 3km. Although cross country was a very tiring day I enjoyed cheering for the rest of the year 8s! I also came 2nd for year 8 girls :D

I also enjoyed serving for Pt England School. Becoming a prefect for 2020 was both an interesting experience and I learnt a lot from it.

I'm also looking forward to prizegiving which is tomorrow evening (Thursday the 10th of December), and also excited for year 8 graduation which is next week Monday (Monday the 14th of December).

Extension- Art work (Art Alive)

For extension this term we drew digitally an image that represented both the environment that is around us and our culture.

For this image we also followed the rule of thirds. The flax is at the very front, the Pt England beach seen in between the flax and the sky. A popular Burmese pattern is drawn onto the flax which represents my culture. We go down to the Pt England beach at least twice a year for our annual school picnic and so I decided to add it in as my background.

Parts of the Atmosphere 🌎

Week 3's extension task was to watch 2 short videos about the 5 layers of the atmosphere and the 4 spheres. We then had to answer 4 simple questions that were shown in the video.

Tha Zin KPMG Trip

Today we went on a trip to KPMG all the year 7 & 8 extension group came but there were some people that were picked to go to KPMG. We had loads of fun! and we even got delicious morning tea and lunch. The reason why we went there was because to get to know more about our school topic which is "Something In The Water"

When we arrived at the KPMG building we were greeted by Justine and also a few of the staff members. We then walked into the infinity room which was pretty much just like a lounge, Justine told us that Nate the chef had left which I didn't even know who that was since it was the first time I've ever been to KPMG. After we then got to the introductions and got to know all of those staff members and then we met two ladies called Suzy and Lucy who told us about what they do at Tonkin + Taylor. Suzy and Lucy also told us about the environment and how they are helping the marine animals.

We then had some morning tea which was delicious scones with jam and cream, we then went to sustainable coastlines which explained to us about beach clean ups and how we can get involved we also talked about planting trees. We then walked around and checked out the place and also did you know that the toilets are compostable toilet and some of us even went and tried it.

After looking around the place we then took a group photo and started to walk back to KPMG, when we arrived at KPMG we split into four teams and got given a piece of paper that had a Māori god and we had to search what they were in charge of and research on what is threatening it. After researching about the god that we got we had a mini break and got to eat lunch, lunch was amazing we had mini burgers, mini pizza, curly fries, salad and fruit kebab, our god that we had to research about was Tāne Mahuta and the thing that was threatening Tāne Mahuta was plastic. After our lunch break we went back to our desks and started creating a robot that would help clean up the plastics and to help the forest and help out with the animals that live in the forests, we split up into two groups and one group worked on the robot itself and the other team which I was in worked on a tree sculpture which the robot was supposed to create out of plastic.

When we finished with our robot and our tree sculpture and the time was up we all shared what our robot does and what it does to help out. After we all presented it was time to go back to school so we then cleaned up our desks and Bethan said a on behalf of us, after all the goodbyes we then walked to the bus and we drove back to school. Overall I really enjoyed going to KPMG and I think that the others did too.
